Groan… Just like they say the only safe sex is abstinence, it seems the only safe tan is, well, abstinence also. A new study has found the main active ingredient found in self-tanning products - Dihydroxyacetone (or DHA to you and me, contained in almost all self-tanners) – increases the level of free radicals generated by up to 180% during sun exposure, causing the photo aging processes to speed up. So while we’re all busy slathering on the fake tan in an attempt to avoid sun damage, it seems even that may not be completely safe or skin-friendly any more…
